Oh gosh, I got a bit teary-eyed reading this piece. Honestly, I am one of Glee's ultimate fan, and aside from liking its cover music, the greatest pull that the show has given me is Rachel and Finn's love story. With Corey's (Finn) death, the mellow-dramatic ending will never be fulfilled. You see, every story a writer will write, he/she has to set a heart in it, otherwise, it would be pointless to do it. Love is a powerful thing in life, and so is in every story transformed into a book or film.
Glee has transformed every character's life leading into something else - finding music in the midst of pain and struggle, giving way to a clear path and fulfillment. The characters especially Rachel and Finn are finding themselves one step at a time before embracing reality. If I would be given a chance to choose 50 TV series to watch without Glee, I felt like I would miss half the chance to express myself. Aside from giving life again to some of greatest songs in the world, Glee reconnects the songs into their present day struggles, breathing new life with each song.
I love how producer Ryan Murphy will originally end the TV series because it is about finding what matter's most in life - a home, a place where dreams started out and ought to be cherished. For Rachel, Finn is her real home in her heart and not the glittering lights of Broadway in New York. The travels we did in life will often mislead us but if we look deep in our heart, we would realize that what we are struggling to find is not what we can't have but what we truly have right from the start. Rachel and Finn's love story is about contentment, appreciation and simplified form of happiness.
Now without Finn in the story, I don't how the show will end but I have faith that it happens for a reason. I wish that music will lead to a better ending for Rachel and the rest of the show's cast.
Reflecting on the original ending, Rachel who became a big Broadway star that started out from a lonely geek loser came back to the school where a Glee club saved her life. She will come face to face with Finn, who choose to become a teacher and a mentor of the Glee club. Finn will ask her: "what are you doing here?" Rachel will answer back with a bit of loneliness in her eyes amid her Broadway success: "I'm home." Then it fades out, a bittersweet ending that every love story should have in the first place.
