To promote the passion for filmmaking and
Philippine cinema, veteran cinematographer Nap Jamir II hold a 4-day
cinematography workshop at Cinemateque Iloilo to 38 aspiring Ilonggo filmmakers
on January 17-20, 2013. The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP)
organized the event as part of the 3rd Sineng Pambansa Film Festival
in time for Iloilo City’s Dinagyang Festival week. Nap Jamir II, a multi-awarded
director, cinematographer and lecturer on Basic Cinematography in the country known
for his masterful works in the independent film “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo
Oliveros” and other mainstream films shared his wisdom to budding Ilonggo
filmmakers. Also part of the FDCP workshop team that guided the participants
were Steve Sagun, Jordan Arabejo and Luis Liwanag. The workshop taught the aspiring
filmmakers about the discipline of the basic cinematography, the latest innovation
in the filmmaking industry and techniques how to approach the craft
artistically. Towards the end of the workshop, the Ilonggo filmmakers were
divided into four groups that would be given a day to create and shoot their own
short films in different locations in Iloilo City. The four films with unique
perspective about life and culture created by the participants are “Parallel,” “Handumanan,”
“Freedom” and “Kaon.” These short films were screened at the end of the
workshop and will be shown again this year at Cinemateque Iloilo.
The Philippine Cinematheque is a vital
part of the Sineng Pambansa or National Cinema program of the Film Development
Council of the Philippines (FDCP), whose mission is to "bring Filipino
films to Filipinos". Cinemateque Iloilo located at B and C Square corner Iznart and Solis Street, Iloilo City regularly screened local and
international movies from Monday to Sunday.
